Brain Injury Program
Individuals who have sustained a brain injury because of a motor vehicle or motorcycle accident, assault, fall, gunshot wound, near drowning, anoxia or hypoxia, brain tumor, or diseases such as viral encephalitis, need special care. In general, they need assistance with physical, cognitive and/or emotional functioning because of their brain injury. Our center assists individuals in developing the skills needed for discharge home, or into the least restrictive environment possible.
Our program includes rehabilitation and education for patients and their families, with the goal of improving the level of functioning and independence. We are so committed to success, that we begin discharge planning on the day of admission. From then on, all therapeutic and medical interventions focus on the client and his or her family’s goals, and facilitate the development of skills designed to meet the needs of the individual’s discharge environment. Patients remain in the program anywhere from two months to a year, depending on the individual’s goals and his or her weekly progress.
We take interdisciplinary approach to care, using a team of doctors, physiatrists, psychologists, social workers, physical and occupational therapists, speech language pathologists, RNs, LPNs, and CNAs, as well as utilizing vocational counseling and recreational therapy. Many members of our staff hold certifications from the American Academy for Certification of Brain Injury Specialist (AACBIS) program.
